I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Galations 2:20

I'm Baaaaack!

Okay, enough people have given me a hard time about my site - so I am back on!

I can't believe it has been six months since I posted! I have been so busy, I don't know where the time has gone.

Well, let's see, I recently went on vacation for my brother-in-law, Charlie's graduation. It was really neat. It was in Charleston, SC and he graduated from a school of the arts. It is a public high school but you have to audition to get in. Charlie is an awesome trumpet player and he was in the jazz band. The graduation was not as boring as your typical graduation because the seniors from each of the majors performed and it was so neat! They had piano players, the jazz band (there is also a concert band, but only the jazz band performed), orchestra, vocal, creative writing, drama, dance and the visual arts students had artwork on display. It was so neat.

I also just got back from Comissioning weekend. I had a good time. I got to see family and friends and saw some friends commissioned. We will soon have two new couples in our division so that will be nice.

Well, I have been eating my lunch while typing this and now I'm done so I should probably go. I'll try not to let six months slip by without posting!

Christmas Portrait

Hey Everybody!

WOW! I had a goal to update once a month. Clearly, that didn't happen. These last couple of months have been a whirlwind and now we're in the midst of Christmas. I haven't even been able to read all the interesting things others post! I just wanted to take a moment to say Merry Christmas to all of you because I probably won't be able to check Xanga again until after Christmas. Once we finish with the activities of Christmas, I hope to post and let everyone know how we are and what we've been busy with these last few months. We'll see!

I pray that you are feeling Christ's presence in this glorious season!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Well, I guess I should begin this update by telling you about the mission trip.

What an AMAZING time. We had such a great week doing VBS in El Paso. I had a fun time teaching 5th & 6th graders. I was challenged by them. At first, I was challenged because they had so much energy and I wasn't sure they were hearing what I was sharing with them. Then, I was challenged as they learned their Bible verses and comitted their lives to Christ. What a gift from God! They challenged me to work as hard as they did to learn God's word. The VBS was a great time!

We had a blast when we took the kids to a water park too. The kids were so much fun. I will never forget the feeling I had as I tried the "Alien Vortex" appropriately nicknamed "the toilet" by the kids. You slide down a slide and then spin around in a big toliet bowl like circle and eventually it drops you into a pool through a small hole in the center. It really did feel strange. I also had a blast in the wave pool as one of the little girls practically choked me as she begged me to carry her deeper into the pool while she rode on my back. There was also the time in the wave pool with Felicia and Trista that had me laughing harder than I have in a really long time. All in all the water park was a really fun experience.

Then, there was our day in Juarez. Boy were my eyes opened! We are so blessed in America! We got to repaint the nursery of the childcare center and the entryway to the corps. I got to hold a beautiful baby when we first arrived. I'll never forget that beautiful girl. Her name was Alondra and she snuggled sweetly against me. But, there was a lot of work to do and I couldn't spend all day holding a baby so we started painting. It was beautiful! We began with faded pale yellow walls with the paint chipping off and ended with bright beautiful colors! Bright blue, green, and orange! It was so cheery. Then at the end of the day the corps officer asked us to use our hands (dipped in paint) to make a border all the way around the room so that they could remember the hands that painted the room. That was such a humbling, wonderful request! I have always had a passion for missions and this renewed it and reafirmed it again. I thank God for such a wonderful experience!!

I have many other stories from the trip as well as stories about great things that have happened since we've been back, but this is getting too long! I guess that's what happens when you don't even post once a month!  Well, I'll leave you with some pictures from the trip:

We had a blast in El Paso, Texas & Juarez, Mexico! We are back in Des Moines now. Sadly I have been very sick. We got back at about midnight on Tuesday evening. Wednesday morning I woke up very sick and the last two days have been a blur as I have slept off and on. I hope it passes soon. I have a lot to do for Sunday and SACEP. I'll tell you more about our trip when I'm not sick anymore.
